Flourish Choir
Flourish@SMART Choir is an inclusive non-auditioned choir, and is one of
Tang Hall SMART CIC’s community club offers.
The Flourish Choir has been running for several years and include some of Tang Hall SMART’s participants which include adults with learning disabilities, participants from United Response and people from the community and those from local care homes, including those living with dementia, who benefit from our welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and supportive, no pressure rehearsals.
How can I join the flourish choir?
As well as a chance to learn new songs and become more confident at singing as part of a group, choir members have said they have made new
friends, the choir has helped to improve their confidence, enhanced their overall wellbeing and gives them purpose and routine and a chance to
socialise.
No prior experience in singing or music is needed, we learn a wide range of popular songs orally using lyrics only (so no sheet music reading required!).
We learn songs in unison, sometimes with a second part (like an echo or simple harmony). We usually perform at Tang Hall SMART’s inclusive and community concerts, which are often held towards the end of each term (which is held in the same hall we rehearse in), but we have also performed at York Barbican alongside other musical performances from Tang Hall SMART in 2023, and have even taken part in university student project which was published on BBC news!
The choir rehearses on Mondays 11am -12pm during Tang Hall SMART’s term time, at The Centre@Burnholme, Mossdale Avenue, York (in the hall, situated in the same building as the Tang Hall Explore Library).
Cost per rehearsal is £3, which is collected at the start of each session in cash.
